Post-congress trip to the Ferreira Penna Biological station (ECFP)
The Museu Paraense Emilio Goeldi has a biological station at about 400 km west of Belém, situated in an isolated and well preserved area of Amazonian lowland rainforest. Information about ECFP can be found at: http://www.museu-goeldi.br/ecfpn.
The trip to ECFP will start on July 20 at 19 h with a trip by commercial boat to Breves (12 hours). From Breves the trip will continue aboard the ECFP ship that will need 9 hours to reach the station. This trip is very agreeable and will provide a good picture of the local vegetation, fauna, waterways and inhabitants. Three entire days will be spent at ECFP, with the return trip initiating either on July 24 at night or in the morning of July 25. Return in Belém will be on July 26. The total cost includes transport, food, guides and guidance by two doctoral herpetology students who know the region.
It is advised to take with you a sheet, swimming suit, lantern + enough batteries, insect repellent, and the things and clothes you usually take with you into the field.
As the number of places is limited to 10, reservations have to be made in advance via Email gleomarmaschio@yahoo.com.br with copy to dtfeitosa@yahoo.com.br, in order to check whether there still is place. After confirmation a deposit of 50% of the price has to be made in the bank account of the Treasurer of IIICBH (data will be sent along with the confirmation). In case foreigners have problems transferring money to the Brazilian bank account, please advise us and we will find a way to solve the problem. The trip will only take place when there are 10 reservations. In case you desist of the trip, the advance payment will only be returned if the open place is taken by somebody else. In case the trip is cancelled of course the entire amount paid will be returned.
